Jimmies Win Twice To Make GPAC Baseball Bracket Final
CRETE, NE – Needing two wins, Jamestown Jimmie baseball delivered.
UJ won twice Friday in the GPAC Baseball Tournament at the Doane Ballfield Complex to advance to the final of the Doane Bracket. The Jimmies scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Morningside 4-3, then won over Northwestern 3-1.
Jamestown 4, Morningside 3
After Morningside had scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game, Riki Okamoto was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to bring in the winning run.
Jordan Singleton drove in the first two runs for Jamestown (29-18) with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and an RBI single in the third inning.
Morningside scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before the Jimmies took the lead back on a throwing error in the eighth inning.
Hayden Brown (1-1), despite allowing Morningside’s ninth inning run, earned the win.
Jamestown 3, Northwestern 1
Jett Nelson gave the Jimmies a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run single. Chase Burke delivered an RBI single in the fifth for a 3-0 lead for Jamestown (30-18).
Luke Zimmer (5-3) combined with Ethan Petty, Jack Howard and Brown to allow an unearned run and seven hits. Brown pitched the ninth inning for his sixth save.
On Saturday, Jamestown will face Doane. If the Jimmies win twice over the Tigers, Jamestown would advance to the GPAC championship game on Tuesday. Coverage of Saturday’s action will begin at around 12:45 PM on Thunder 98.3.
