GRAFTON – The surprising run for Carrington Cardinal Softball ended one game short of a first state tournament.

Thompson scored six runs in the first inning Tuesday, defeating Carrington 12-2 in the final state qualifying game of the B Region II Tournament at the Grafton Parks & Recreation Softball Complex.

Mya Warcken and Abby Olson drove in two runs each for the Tommies (18-9).  Kya Hurst had three hits.

The only runs for Carrington (7-9) were produced with a Katie Allmaras two-run double in the third inning.

Freshman Calleigh Hewitt was the Cardinals’ lone representative on the all-region team.  Hewitt had six of the seven Carrington pitching wins and hit .525 (21-of-40) with seven doubles, five triples, a home run and 13 RBI.
