CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A public hearing to change a city zoning ordinance caused a stir with people who live near the Pizza Corner Factory and are concerned about noise, garbage and truck traffic.
Dale Sather and his wife Colleen lives across the street. They say the don’t get much sleep with the noise of employees changing shifts and running their vehicle in the middle of the night.
The Sather’s asked the city when was the business allowed to operate round the clock? No city official had an answer to that question.
Barry Devitt questioned why the city hasn’t enforced the ordinance violations by the factory owner.
Valley Development Corporation Executive Director Jennifer Feist said the issues of parking and truck traffic have been addressed by the owner of the factory.
Resident Bobby Koepplin said residents would not be able to have public input if any business is permitted to move from a B-1 to a B-2 zoning district.
Feist disagreed with Koepplins comment.
Resident Jodie Hannig said the factory should be relocated to an industrial park.
Resident Jennifer Cabezas urged the city to give the factory owner an incentive to move into an industrial zone.
Valley City Commissioner Dewey Magnuson said a planning and zoning public hearing would be a better setting to address all these concerns.
The city commission approved of changing the zoning ordinance known as a “Zoning Matrix to allow assembly from previously prepared or manufactured products, including food, plastic, electronics and metal products in a B-2 Business District on a 4 to 0 vote. Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson was not at the meeting.
The owner of the Pizza Corner Factory is proposing to expand his business that employees some 150 people.
