N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne issued the following statement in response to congressional action that will save crop insurance from devastating cuts that were contained in the recent Bipartisan Budget Agreement of 2015.
“Farmers Union and other farm groups worked hard to reverse a provision that would have cut $3 billion from private sector crop insurance deliverers, effectively jeopardizing crop insurance delivery on the ground.
“We appreciate the bipartisan efforts of Congress to make the correction through language contained in the Highway Bill Conference Report. With our struggling farm economy, it’s important that crop insurance and other farm bill programs remain whole.”
