N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Dakota Valley & Northern Plains Electric Cooperatives held their annual Cooperative Month Can & Coat Drive during the month of October and had great success.

According to Katie Ryan-Anderson, the holiday spirit arrived early with more than 800 winter apparel items collected at their offices in Edgeley, Carrington, Milnor and Cando. Food donations benefited food pantries in each respective county and the board of directors made monetary donations to each of the food pantries.

“Our co-ops partnered with several schools and organizations,” said Katie Ryan-Anderson, manager of member communications. “With their help, this drive exceeded our expectations. We’ll help keep a lot of little ones warm this year.”

Student-led groups volunteered to collect winter apparel and non-perishable food items. The groups laundered, organized and delivered the donations. Those student groups include: Little Flower Catholic Church CYO, Rugby; Montpelier Public School, Edgeley Public School, and Pingree-Buchanan Public Schools. Volunteers from ServeYes in Jamestown also helped launder the winter apparel. And employees at J&M Printing in Gwinner donated $400 for children’s winter apparel.
