Jean Melland passed away in her home on Monday, October 19, 2015. Deb was born October 4, 1951 in Jamestown, North Dakota. She attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska and completed her bachelor’s degree at Jamestown College.

She taught elementary school in Rugby, North Dakota and then in the Jamestown School District, mostly at Gussner School, until she retired. She enjoyed music and played the piano for several local organizations and groups. Deb was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown and shared her musical talents with the congregation there as well as Immanuel Lutheran Church. She had a great heart for cats and had many of them as pets over the years, always bringing them home from the Humane Society where she also volunteered.

She is survived by her step-mother, Angie Melland (Ed Schmalz); her brother, Jim (Helen) Melland; two nieces, Betsy (Walker) Asserson and Katie (Eric) Lowe and their families; and her aunt, Phyllis (Ray) Seiler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Robert Melland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Emily Program Foundation (an Eating Disorders Treatment Program), 1295 Bandana Blvd. W., Ste. 210, St. Paul, MN 55108.

Memorial Service: 9:30 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation: None scheduled.

Interment: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
