N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown City Forester Doug Wiles has received the Community of the Year award for Jamestown after his work in forestry.
The award is given to a community that demonstrates through exemplary leadership or outstanding example and its commitment to the development or enthusiastic continuation of a sustainable community forestry program. In two years, Jamestown has developed a landscape ordinance that requires commercial properties and institutions to landscape their properties and has also started the Planting Partners Program.
The community has also constructed a gravel bed nursery that allows the city to purchase bareroot trees at low costs and has planted over 400 trees in the last two years including 233 trees in the East Business Loop Landscape Project.
