N.D. (NewsDakota.com) AARP Foundation is looking to build its team of tax loving volunteers in North Dakota. Tax-Aide is a free tax assistance and preparation program for taxpayers with low-to-moderate income through the AARP Foundation.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has volunteer opportunities for people at every level of experience who want to stay mentally sharp while giving back. Tax volunteers will complete a tax preparation workshop taught by local instructors prior to working with taxpayers. There is also a need for grassroots leadership, on-site greeters, and those who are skilled in technology.
Last year in North Dakota, 119 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 8,700 people file their federal, state and local tax returns. The program is offered at 11 sites in North Dakota including senior centers, churches and other convenient locations.
Francis “Fritz” Schwindt, the new statewide coordinator for Tax-Aide in North Dakota, says, “AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers are not only helping people within their community, but they are giving their mind a workout as well. Volunteers do not need tax preparation experience. All volunteers receive comprehensive IRS training on tax forms and software at no cost.”
Schwindt says potential volunteers should have computer skills, enjoy meeting people and working with other volunteers, and be able to commit at least four hours a week from February 1-April 15. Schedules are flexible to accommodate winter vacations and other needs.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, in its 48th year, is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service.
