N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A proposed ordinance that would allow licensed ATV’s and UTV’s for street use in the community has been defeated by the city’s Police Committee.
It was first proposed by Police Chief Scott Edinger after it was found that the vehicles were allowed under current ordinances, but only to be driven on the shortest route from the owner’s residence to outside of the city limits. Edinger pointed out that there really was no difference between the vehicles and more traditional cars or trucks.
Council members Steve Brubakken and Dan Buchanan disagreed, pointing out the Consumer Product Safety Commission advising against street operation. The motion was defeated on a 3 to 2 vote with Council Member Charlie Kourajian, Brubakken and Buchanan voting against.
