funeral mass for Edward J. Sherman, 99, Valley City, ND, formerly of Fingal, ND will be celebrated 10:30 am Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Oriska, ND.  Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, rural Fingal.  He died Sunday, August 23, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Visitation will be one hour before the service in the church with the rosary at 10 am.

Edward James Sherman was born June 3, 1916 in Springvale Township, rural Barnes County, ND.  He was the son of Andrew and Theresa (Huber) Sherman.  Edward attended rural school and later worked for farmers in the Barnes County area.  He served in the army during WWII from February 18, 1942 to December 11, 1945.  Upon his discharge he continued farming and eventually farmed with his brothers.  The Sherman brothers continued to farm until 1975.  Edward however kept some small livestock and chickens until moving into Valley City in 2002.  He lived at the Prairie Inn until entering the Sheyenne Care Center in 2010.

He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the VFW.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Louise Pratchner, Rose Sherman, Gerhard Sherman, Rudolph Sherman, Lawrence Sherman and Valeria Sherman.
