N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The USGS Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center will be celebrating 50 years of conducting field research on waterfowl, habitats, and ecology of the Northern Great Plains.

Since its inception in 1965, the center has expanded their research parameters to not only include waterfowl, but to many different suites of birds that also benefit from the same ecosystems that waterfowl do. Here’s Deputy Director of the Center Mark Sherfy.

And in their 50 years, they’ve been able to learn a lot more about the ecosystem in the area.

The public is invited to an open house from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 22nd. There will be presentations from local researchers and biologists on cranes, amphibians, and honeybees. The open house is free to the public. Things kick off today with the formal celebration at 10:30 AM. The center is located 1 mile south of the Bloom Exit on I-94.
