N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The day started with six teams and would end with just three left in the 2015 State Babe Ruth Baseball Tourney in Hettinger. Three games were decided by 10-run rule and the winners of the four games today outscored their opponents 51-7 in four games.
Thompson 14 Grafton 3, 5 innings (elimination game)
Valley City 10 Velva 2 (elimination game)
Starting pitcher Riley Miller worked all seven innings to get his seventh victory of the year and hitters Bryce Nelson, Reese Huschka, Avery Bennefeld and Miller all had two hits each to help Valley City get the victory. Seth Fahy took the loss.
Kindred 14 Carrington 1, 5 innings (semifinal)
The Kindred Vikings hit two home runs, scored 10 runs and sent 13 batters to the plate all in the bottom of the first inning to help them move into the championship game on Monday. Trenton Ducscherer hit a grand slam and five batters later, Derek Houska hit a 2-run shot. Nicholas Mathias was the winning pitcher, Kyle Leapaldt took the loss. Kindred has gone 3-0 in the tourney so far and will have to be beat twice for them not to win a repeat championship.
Thompson 13 Valley City 1, 5 innings (elimination game)
In the nightcap game at Mirror Lake Ballpark, both teams were on their second game of the day. Thompson put up four runs in the first and second inning and three runs in each on the next three innings to get the victory over Valley City. Hayden Overby was the winning pitcher, Dawson Dietrich took the loss. VC goes 2-2 in the tourney and finishes in the final four and ends their season at 31-7 overall.
