N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City Post 60 was able to bounce back after a 10-1 loss yesterday at the hands of Velva at the American Legion State Class A Baseball Tournament. 

Nate Rodriguez provided an early spark with a two run homer in the top of the first inning for Post 60 against the Makoti Mavericks today at Goldmann Field at McKenzie Park. Makoti tied up the game in their half of the inning with a two run double from Jordan Nelson. 

In the top of the second inning with the game tied at 2 apiece, Jesse Johnson walked with bases loaded and that brought Austin Meyer in from third to give Post 60 a 3-2 lead.   

The big inning came in the top of the fifth for Valley City as Rodriguez hit a three run homer, making it 6-2 and Post 60 would add another 3 runs after that in the inning to go ahead 9-2. 

Valley City would go on to win 10-2 over Makoti and eliminated the Mavericks from the tournament. 

Johnson earned the win for Valley City, pitching a complete game on the mound while giving up 2 runs on 10 hits with 5 strike outs. 

Rodriguez went 2-4 from the plate with 5 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Valley City finished the game with 10 runs, 12 hits and 1 error. 

Makoti finished with 2 runs, 10 hits and 3 errors. 

Post 60 will take on Grafton tomorrow in an elimination game at 1 p.m. You can listen to the game on 103.1 The Raven.
