N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Department of Health announced Friday a rise in Tularemia, an uncommon disease that humans can catch from animals and insects.
According to their report, two confirmed cases have been found in LaMoure and Burleigh counties with one unconfirmed in Stark County. Other cases have come from The Roosevelt Zoo in Minot and two primates from the Dakota Zoo in Bismark. Tulameria is caused by bacteria that are commonly transmitted to humans and animals by ticks and deer flies.
Symptoms usually appear one to 14 days after exposure and may include fever, chills, headache, sore throat and cough.
