N.D. (NewsDakota.com) No. 1 Carrington and No. 4 Hatton from the Central Region advanced to the State Legion Baseball Tourney, after both teams made it to the championship. In the Saturday afternoon game, the Hatton Flyers Post 70 beat Carrington 8-5 at Hatton Baseball Field. Hatton did not lose in the tourney, going 4-0. Carrington Post 25 had to fight to get back to the championship game after they were upset by No. 8 Hillsboro/CV on opening day. Post 25 won four games in a row when facing elimination and will return to the state tourney for the second year in a row.
Landon Workin was the winning pitcher for Post 70, going all seven innings. Jayden Shipman was the losing pitcher. Shortstop Jake Bilden was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Hatton. Second basemen Connor Wendel was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a run scored. It was Wendel’s second home run of the tourney, he hit a grand-slam on Friday against HCV.
Hatton will make its first state appearance since 2013.
