CITY, N.D. (VCSU) – Valley City State University (N.D.) head men’s basketball coach Jeff Kaminsky announced today that California native Nate Vieira has signed a letter of intent to attend VCSU and play basketball for the Vikings this fall.
A 5-foot-9 guard, Vieira is transferring to VCSU after playing the past two seasons at De Anza College in Cupertino, California. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at VCSU.
“We are excited to have Nate join our program,” said Kaminsky. “He had an outstanding career in a quality program at De Anza College where he was highly successful on and off the court.”
Vieira was named All Conference during his freshman season at De Anza, which plays in the Coast-South Conference of the California Community College Athletic Association. Last season as a sophomore, Vieira averaged 10.5 points and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range.
“Nate has the ability to positively impact the game on both ends of the court and will be a great fit in our system,” said Kaminsky. “Nate has a great work ethic and we are looking forward to the leadership he can add to our program.”
“Nate is an extremely competitive young man with a high skill level. He has the ability to affect the game in a variety of ways,” said Jason Damjanovic, head coach at De Anza College. “He is extremely quick, and can distribute as well as score.”
Vieira is a native of San Jose, Calif., and attended Los Altos High School. He is the son of Damaris Vieira and Ricardo Vieira.
Valley City State University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the North Star Athletic Association conference.
