(NewsDakota.com) Despite having more than a handful of starters out, the Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team secured, at worst, a second seed berth in next week’s Class B Southeast Region tournament after a pair of victories in Wishek on Tuesday night.

Oakes won their 14th and 15th games of the season with a 14-4 victory in six innings, and a 17-8 win in six and a half innings. Jon Tyre was the winning pitcher in game one, with 14 strikeouts, while Michael Kelly put down 10 in the second game.

Post 36 (15-3 Class B Southeast Region) won their ninth Southeast Region contest, and  played without four regular starters; Bryce Meehl, Cole Kelly, and Carter Zetocha due to their participation in this week’s Shrine Bowl football game, and without Grayson Roney, who was recovering from having his wisdom teeth removed.

Post 87 has not won a Southeast Region game in roughly a month, and now stands at 2-13 this season.

Oakes would win the Class B Southeast Region regular season title provided Kindred loses one of their remaining three scheduled games. Should Kindred win out, Oakes would be the #2 seed for the upcoming tournament in Kindred starting on Wednesday July 22.
