FORKS, ND – (NewsDakota.com) A report of a gunman with two hostages at the Walmart on 32nd Avenue South in Grand Forks last night turned out to be a hoax.

Police and SWAT spent three-and-a-half hours investigating and sweeping the store before making that determination. The caller claimed he was in the store with two hostages.

Customers and employees were moved to an area away from where the caller claimed to be. The caller eventually said he was joking and hung up. Panicked family and friends gathered outside while police worked the scene.

After interviewing 150 employees and customers, and reviewing video footage, police determined the call was bogus. Police are still trying to figure out who the caller was.  It’s the same store where two people died in a shooting in May.
