CITY, ND – District 24 legislators may differ on political issues, but local City County Health leaders say all three earned high marks for using Public Health science to inform legislators about the importance of tobacco-prevention measures during the 2015 North Dakota Legislative Session.
Sen. Larry Robinson (D), and Reps. Naomi Muscha (D) and Dwight Kiefert (R) consistently followed Public Health science when voting on tobacco prevention issues, according to Vicki Voldal Rosenau, City-County Health District’s (CCHD) tobacco prevention coordinator. She said of North Dakota’s 47 legislative districts, District 24 was one of only six districts whose delegations followed research with every vote cast on tobacco-related bills.
CCHD Executive Director Theresa Will said local legislators have advocated for the public’s health regarding other topics too.
Will said, district 24 lawmakers have included good science in their decision-making process on health-related issues beyond tobacco prevention.
