N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Farmers Union says it has gathered more than enough signatures on petitions to put exemptions to the state’s anti-corporate farming law on the ballot.

The exemptions would allow corporations to own dairy and swine operations.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger will now review the petitions to see if there are enough valid signatures to get the measure on the June primary ballot.

Farmers Union president Mark Watne says the group hasn’t yet talked about an election strategy.

Supporters of the bill said it was a way to help revive animal agriculture. But Watne says there are other ways to do that, while preserving North Dakota’s family farm tradition.
