CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) A woman and her cat escaped serious injury after neighbors told the homeowner that her home was on fire early Saturday morning in Valley City.

Fire Chief Gary Retterath says smoking material on the patio is the preliminary cause of the fire.

It took firefighters about two hours to get the fire under control at 740 North Central Avenue in Valley City.
