Lohn Hanson was born September 13, 1923, in rural Fort Ransom, ND, the son of Elmer P. and Maria “Mary” O. (Anderson) Hanson.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Standing Rock Lutheran Church, Fort Ransom, ND.  Wayne graduated from Fort Ransom School in 1941.  He entered the US Army in March 1943 during WWII and served in the European Theatre.

Wayne was united in marriage to Shirley Stroh on March 26, 1948 in Aberdeen, SD.  Their first home was in Kathryn, ND where Wayne managed the Standard Bulk Dealership.  While living in Kathryn their two daughters were born.  In 1956, Wayne and family moved to Seattle, Washington and he was employed by Standard Oil. On October 31, 1957 Wayne and Shirley moved to Rogers, ND and operated Hanson’s Café along with Hanson’s Oil Company and Oil Products.  They worked seven days a week for many years, retiring in 1985.  Wayne had the honor of serving as mayor of Rogers for many years.  After retirement they moved to Valley City, enjoying their winters in Mesa, Arizona.  He enjoyed bowling and playing golf.  Wayne was a member of the Eagles, Elks, and VFW.  He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Rogers, ND. Wayne was a loving husband and devoted father.

Wayne is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (Rick) Jorissen of Dazey, ND and Marjorie (Gale, “Buzz”) Eggert of Valley City, ND; grandchildren, Suzanne (Garth) Stenehjem, Tara (Elliott) Ehlis, Timothy (Trisha) Eggert, Tamara (Ryan) Jewett, Travis (Michelle) Jorissen, and Cole (Jena) Jorissen; great grandchildren, Jaden & Mya Stenehjem, Jenna, Page, Brock, & Joshua Ehlis, Alexis, Will, & Carson Eggert, Brooke & Kale Jewett, Derick and Johanna Jorissen, and Layne & Jack Jorissen; one sister, Audrey Morelock, Scottsdale, AZ; and one brother, Dale (Vivian) Hanson, Marietta, GA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, parents, a great granddaughter and brother, Ray Hanson.

The funeral service for Wayne L. Hanson, 91, Valley City, North Dakota will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens near Valley City.  He died Monday, June 8, 2015, in Valley City.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.  A prayer service will be held there beginning at 7:00.
