CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) There is an effort underway in Barnes County to increase child care capacity to meet an ever growing need.

The Barnes County and Valley City board of commissioners unanimously approved of a Development Corporation request to use a total of $100,000 in economic development funds to establish a two tiered program to meet the shortage of child care in the county.

Director of Development Jennifer Feist said the program would generate about 50 new slots to help reduce costs for licensed child care providers over the next five years.

Feist said $2.25 million in funding for the statewide program was approved by the legislature earlier this year.
