N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liner softball team was trying to match their best performance at a state tournament with a win over the Bismarck Century Patriots yesterday in Dickinson.

But, Cassidy Miller of Bismarck Century had other ideas in the consolation championship game. She pitched a complete game, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits while striking out 7 Hi-Liners in Bismarck Century’s 6-2 win.

After Bismarck Century started the game with a run in the top of the first the Hi-Liners tied the game with a RBI single by Madison McDaniel in the bottom of the inning, which allowed Hannah Meyer to score from the third.

Then the Patriots took the lead back with a run in the second and two runs scored in the third and fourth innings.

Valley City took 6th at state in 2011 and 5th in 2013.

Jason Lindgren comments below:

After A 19 Hit Outburst Yesterday, We Fell Flat Today In The Consolation Championship Game Totalling Only 3 Hits And 4 Walks, But I Do Have To Say We Made The Most Of Those 3 Hits In Being Able To Put 2 Runs On The Board With Some Aggressive Baserunning, But It Wasn't Enough Today As Bismarck Century Was Able To Put 10 Hits Together And Also ran The Bases Very Well And Put 6 Runs On The Board. Although Our Defense Was Again Pretty Solid, Century Had Some Very Timely Solidly Hit Balls That allowed Them To Capitalize And Keep The Margin Just Outof Our Reach As 3 Times The Hi-Liners Left Runners In Scoring Position. And That Too Didn't Help In Closing That Gap. Tarryn Had Another Solid Effert From The Circle, But Century As Always Was A Strong Hitting Team Up And Down Their Lineup. A Dissapointing End For This Team And This Group Of Seniors, I Really Wantd Them To Go Out With A Win And Also Give This Young Team Something To Build From For Next Season, We Will Be Back, We Have A Strong Nucleus Returning And We Have Some Really Good Kids Coming Up Through The Program So I Really Look For Us To Be Back In This Same Tournament Again Next Year. A Final Thanks To Our Great Community For Coming Together With Support To Help With Our Travel Needs And Thanks To These Seniors And Their Parents For Being A Wonderful Group To Work With.
