CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) An estimated ,000 in maintenance and repair work is needed on the 14 year old Youth Sports Complex in Valley City according to Bobby Koepplin the president of the Valley City Twisters Gymnastics Club.

Koepplin asked the school boards extracurricular committee if the two clubs who now lease the building from the school district could use monies in their Demolition Fund for the repair request.

Acting on the advice of an attorney, Superintendent Dean Koppelman told Koepplin that the money could be used for their request pending board approval but that the clubs would have to pay the money back on a monthly basis until the fund was fully restored.

One proposal under discussion is to bump up the monthly fee both clubs pay combined from $100 to $300 per month. Both clubs would pay $150 per month until the repair cost is retired or the Demolition Fund is returned to its current balance of $18,560.

Right now the Valley City Hockey Club and the Valley City Twisters Gymnastics Club pay $50 apiece per month toward the Demolition Fund.

Koepplin said under the plan the lighting would be replaced by new long term energy efficient LED lighting, re-key the building to enhance security and build a storage room and a locker room wall.

Koppelman said the extracurricular committee will take Koepplin’s request to the school board at the next scheduled meeting to discuss all of these proposals. The school board has the authority to approve or reject any or all of these proposals.

Construction of the Youth Sports Complex was completed in 2001 at an estimated cost of $843,000.

The lease agreement with the school district is up for renewal on July 25 2020. According to Koppelman if the building goes into default, the lease would be void and monies in the demolition fund could be used to remove the building pending school board approval.
