(NewsDakota.com) The top two teams in Class B Region I baseball at the end of the 2015 regular season are the last two left standing after the opening round of the Region I tournament on Saturday at Northern Cass.
In the first of the four games played, the fifth seeded Squires of Central Cass held on for a 2-1 victory over the #4 seeded Oakes Tornadoes. Nick Holm earned the win for Central Cass, striking out 11. Each team had only one extra base hit; Bryce Meehl’s lead off double in the sixth lead to the only run scored for the Tornadoes.
In game two, the #3 seed Jaguars of Northern Cass shut out #6 LaMoure-Lithcville-Marion 6-0. Tanner Thompson, who had earned a win against the Loboes earlier in the season, pitched a two-hitter, and struck out 11. The Loboes did not register a man on base until Marcus Good picked up a single with two outs in the fourth inning.
The victories for Central Cass and Northern Cass were short lived celebrations. The Squirrels were shut out later in the day by Fletcher Andel and the #1 seeded Vikings of Kindred-Richland 1-0, and Spencer Gillund and the #2 seeded Falcons of Enderlin/Maple Valley took down the Jaguars 7-1.
The Falcons and Vikings will meet in Kindred for a best-of-three Champion Series starting Tuesday, with a possible game three set for Wednesday.
