N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Department of Transportation has received reports from ten of eleven agencies that worked overtime hours for distracted driving prevention month.

A total of 186 distracted driving citations were issued including a total 321 citations given during the enforcement period. Officers participated in the national U Drive. U Text. U Pay enforcement campaign. According to Melissa Reeves with the NDDOT, the effort resulted in education about the no-texting while driving law in North Dakota and helped to eliminate distractions while driving.

The fine for texting and driving in the state is $100. Distracted drivers have contributed to an increase in crashes in the State, with half of licensed drivers who responded to a 2014 Traffic Safety Survey admitted they had texted while driving.
