Catherine Myrtle Andersen, the eldest child of Fred and Caroline (Gillund) Andersen, was born on August 8, 1921 near Buffalo, ND.  Catherine was raised on the farm established by her grandfather, Peter Andersen, south of Buffalo along with her brothers Earl and Wesley.  They were later joined by cousins Dorothy, Ernest, Ruth and Florence Andersen.  Catherine was educated in Buffalo and attended Valley City State Teachers college where she earned her Standard Teaching Degree in 1941.  She taught school in Argusville and Buffalo, ND.  In July 1944 she married Conrad Kaim.  To that union five children were born:  Caroline (who died in infancy), Edith, Charles, Connie and Timothy.  The couple lived and farmed west of Buffalo until 1978.  After her children were grown, Catherine worked at the Tower View Café in Tower City for 16 years.  Family was the center of Catherine’s life.  She was a strong and steady guidepost to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Kate was love and laughter, courage and grace.  She enjoyed time shared with family and friends, music and traveling.  She liked her afternoon coffee with “something a little sweet”, table games with her grandchildren, ice cream and her “legitimate” nap.  She was a life-long member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church and was active in her community.

Catherine is survived by three of her children, Edith (Richard) Cole, New Salem, ND, Charles Kaim, Wahpeton, ND, and Connie (Kalvin) Boyd, Buffalo, ND; five grandchildren, Landi (Tyler) Schock, Kristy (Marc) Stockert, Lonn (Crystal) Boyd, Kory (Tanya) Cole and Lance Boyd; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Betty Andersen.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Tim, and her brothers.
