CITY, ND – With subsoil moisture slowly depleting the rainfall was timely for farmers worried about dry conditions this spring.
But, the drier weather has helped farmers get into the field ahead of the five year average. That being said more acres are going to be planted in North Dakota this year due to the drier soil conditions according to Barnes County Extension Educator Randy Grueneich.
He said the light rain was timed perfectly for pre emergence applications as well.
More light rain is in the forecast for the early part of next week.
May 7 rainfall amounts in the region ranged from one-quarter of an inch to more than an inch of rain.
Aberdeen 1.24, Minot .44, Valley City .38, Jamestown .33, Grand Forks .26 and Fargo with .24 inches of rainfall.
