(NewsDakota.com) After a break of over a week, the LaMoure/Litchville-Marion baseball team started fast on Tuesday at Casselton versus Central Cass. However, one big inning was the difference in a 11-8 Squirrels victory.
The Loboes scored three unearned runs in the top of the first against senior right-hander Nick Holm, helped by two errors. Quinn Alo also chipped in an RBI single. Alo added a solo homer in the 3rd to increase the lead to 4-0. Helped by control troubles from Loboes pitcher Anthony Olson, Central Cass scored eight runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Tommy Voss had a 2-run double to tie the game at 4, and Chandler Hersch and Harrison Koetz added RBI singles in the inning.
The Squirrels added three runs in the 4th inning, with Hersch and Nate Volk each with an RBI to make it 11-4. However, the Loboes scored four in the top of the 5th. Parker Stemen, Hayden Aberle, Adam Haberman, and Marcus Good each drove in a run on base hits to trim the deficit to 11-8. The Loboes chased Holm in the 6th, bringing the tying run to the plate. Alo narrowly missed a game-tying homerun in the 6th, as the wind-aided drive sliced foul to deep right field.
Nate Volk ended the rally with a pair of strikeouts in the 6th, and finished it with a scoreless 7th. Holm picked up the win for Central Cass, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Volk recorded the final five outs for the save. Anthony Olson took the loss for the Loboes.
With the win, Central Cass moves to 4-5 in Region 1 play. LLM falls to 1-7, and travels to Northern Cass on Thursday. Coverage from Hunter can be heard on Q101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com starting at 4:20 p.m. Thursday.
