N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Department of Agriculture has announced the limited movement of poultry and bird movements to control the spread of Avian Influenza.

The State Board of Animal Health has halted bird movement to shows, exhibitions, and public sales within the state. State Veterinarian Dr. Susan Keller stated that the board is taking this precaution to reduce exposure to North Dakota birds.

North Dakota has seen two confirmed cases of bird flue in both Dickey and LaMoure counties that has affected over 100,000 birds. Nationally, the outbreak has affected nearly 10 million birds in 13 states.

If bird owners notice mortality rates among stock, they should contact their local and state veterinarian, restrict their property and prevent contact between their birds and wild birds.
