CITY, ND – Rural firefighters believe sparks from a train that passed through may have ignited a fire northwest of Valley City near Baldhill Dam around 11:25am on Thursday, April 16.

Rural Fire Chief Gary Retterath says a group of farm workers were able to stuff out most of the flames before fire crews arrived at the scene.

Retterath says fire crew’s dumped water on a few hot spots to make sure the grass fire won’t spread to other areas of a nearby field before returning back to the fire station.
