CITY, ND – This week visitor’s will find information ranging from weed control, gardening to property taxes, Medicaid, voting requirements, veteran services, and public health issues in the Barnes County Courthouse.

On Wednesday there will be free blood pressure testing at City-County Health District office from 10am to 11:30 a.m.

Free walking tacos will be served by county employees from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the rotunda, with ice cream floats being offered from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on second floor. Free popcorn will be available throughout the week on second floor.    

Barnes County Highway Department personnel will hold an open house at their shop facility, located at 1525 12th St. NW from noon to 3 p.m. in conjunction with County Government Week. Also located in this facility are the Emergency Management office (Kim Franklin) and the Barnes County Weed Board office (Jim McAllister.)

The public is invited to register for three $25 drawings for Chamber Bucks during the week. One drawing will be held each day until and Thursday. City-County Health will conduct a drawing for a free total lipid profile (cholesterol/triglyceride/blood sugar) on Friday.   

On Thursday afternoon, Sheriff Randy McClaflin and his staff will offer the public a chance to test their abilities while simulating being under the influence of alcohol through the use of special Fatal Vision glasses.

A class of first graders will be touring the courthouse with Commissioner Mike Metcalf on the final day of the observance. Metcalf and other county workers will explain to pupils the function of county government and how it affects them and their families.     

City-County Health will also observe Public Health Week in conjunction with County Government Week. The focus of Public Health Week is “Healthiest Nation 2030.” The winner of the annual CCHD Public Health Outstanding Service Award will be announced during the celebration.
