N.D.(NewsDakota.com) The Hi-Liner softball team advanced to 2-2 in Eastern Dakota conference play last night with a 9-8 win over Fargo North.
The Hi-Liners offense compiled 10 hits in the game. Leading the way for the high powered Hi-Liners offense was Mekenzie Pederson who was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. While Tarryn Justesen was impressive on the mound, perhaps her greatest contribution was at the plate. The junior slugger drove in two runs including a crucial one in the fourth to keep the Hi-Liners out front.
Where Valley’s offense was shinning bright, their defense was stuck in the dark ages giving up three unearned runs on five errors. North’s offense was sparked by Santana Roder who hit a two run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to draw the Spartans to with in one. However, Justesen shut down North in the final inning to capture the win. In her performance in the circle, the Hi-Liners ace struck out five batters while walking one and allowing five runs.
In the non-conference game the Spartans picked up the win 7-2.
Valley City returns to the diamond tonight at West Fargo for the Crossover Tournament. They will open up play with Grafton at 6:30pm. Saturday they will play Williston and Bismarck Legacy.
