CITY, ND – It’s considered the largest amount of paving projects in the history of Barnes County according to Road Superintendent Kerry Johnson. Some 43 total miles of roads in four separate areas in the county will be repaved.
One of those will be the road between Valley City and Kathryn. Project manager Shawn Mayfield of KLJ says work should begin in late May or early June and take about three weeks to complete.
Meanwhile Kerry Johnson says thanks to the surge funding bill and a previous House bill passed by the legislature the money was earmarked for these projects.
Johnson told the Barnes County commission that due to lower oil prices bids on the Kathryn road project came in $580,000 under the estimate. The bid accepted was $2.4 million from Knife River Materials of Bemidji, Minnesota for the Kathryn road overlay project.
In the fall of 2014 the commission approved of using $3.7 million for paving projects near Fingel, Litchville and Sanborn. That funding came from North Dakota House bill 1358.
