Olson, 95, of Milnor, ND, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, ND.
Irving Mervin was born November 18, 1919 at Lisbon, North Dakota to Ole and Inga (Lee) Olson. He was baptized in Lisbon, and received his elementary education at Aliceton Country School. Irving served his country in the 159th Infantry in the U.S. Army from March 27, 1942 to November 10, 1945, serving during World War II, and was discharged as a Staff Sargeant. On December 27, 1952, he married Mary Anastasia Ficenec at St. Arnold’s Catholic Church. They lived and farmed in Sydna Township north of Milnor, where they raised their family. Irving was an avid hunter. He loved farming, working with his livestock, and being with his family. He was a member of St. Arnold’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Mary; three children, Jerome (Patricia) Olson, Milnor, Monica (Timothy) Pederson, Menahga, MN and Richard (Erin) Olson, Milnor; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, two sets of twins, five brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law. Irving was the last surviving sibling.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor. His funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Arnold’s Catholic Church, Milnor, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery near Milnor.
