CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City State’s Alan Sandoval has been named the pitcher of the week in the North Star Athletic association.

 The Tuscon, Arizona native hurled a one-hitter on Saturday in a 4-1 victory over the University of Jamestown. Sandoval gave up his only hit in the opening inning, after that he sat down the next 19 batters. He finished the game with eight strike outs and an earned run average of just 1.29 in the seven inning affair. The win marked the Vikings first over the Jimmies in 32 tries over the past six-seasons.

The Vikings are currently 20-17 overall and are tied for second place in the North Star with a 4-4 conference record. Valley City returns to NSAA play on Saturday for a double header with Presentation College.
