(NewsDakota.com) Alongside various dignitaries Shopko Hometown hosted a grand opening celebration on Friday morning at their newest location in Oakes.

Members of the Oakes City Council, Oakes Enhancement and representatives from Shopko were all in attendance for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the official opening.

Shopko presented the Oakes Public Schools a check worth $2,500 to be used towards to enhancing educational opportunities within the community.

The building site on the north side of town has undergone quite a transformation in the last several months. The previous retail outlet, Alco, filed for bankruptcy last year, and closed the location in Oakes only a few months ago.
