N.D. (NewsDakota.com) In the opening game of the State A Boys Basketball Tournament Grand Forks Red River defeated Jamestown 77-64.
The two teams traded leads throughout the first half and enter the break tied at 33. In the second half, Red River’s Shayden Keplin posted 9 of his 13 points to help the Rough Riders pull away from the Jays. The Rough riders got a good balance in scoring with four players finishing in double digits in the game.
In the first game in a state tournament since 2001 the Blue Jays didn’t appear to show any nerves. Nick Fuchs led Jamestown in scoring with a game high 23 points. Noah Wanzek posted a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds.
The loss puts the Jays in the consolation bracket. Today they will open up play at noon against Wahepton. The Huskies were the regular season Eastern Dakota Conference Champions holding an overall record of 20-4 on the year. The Huskies lost in the opening round to Bismarck Century 68-53.
