N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public School 5th graders are currently studying 5 American artist’s this year in class and are participating in lessons to learn about the different mediums each artist’s used.
Project Leader Bonnie Tressler stated that the class is a STEAM unit, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. The class is currently focusing on Artist Dale Chihuly, a glass blower. In the art portion of the lesson, the class will be creating a replica glass sculpture in each classroom, a chandelier, and a large “team” sculpture in the Arts Center foyer.
“The students have been collecting plastic beverage bottles, the larger the better, to use as “glass” in the sculptures. Bottles should be clean and without labels. Students will paint them, cut them and manipulate the bottles with heat.” Bonnie stated.
On May 6th, a reception will be held at the Arts Center. Students, parents, relatives, and community members can visit that gallery. Fargo artist Jon Offutt will also be demonstrating glassblowing in the Art Park.
