N.D. (NewsDakota.com) North Dakota lawmakers are weighing in a measure to exempt dairy and swine operations from the state’s anti-corporate farming law. The bill is one of the most contentious before the Legislature this session.

The Senate voted last month to allow non-family farm corporations to own or lease agriculture land, as long as the operations don’t take up more than 640 acres of land, or a square mile.

Supporters of the bill say it would improve farmers’ access to capital and spur growth for the state’s dairy industry. Jamestown area Dairy farmer Terry Entzminger explains why he supports the bill.

Opponents say the current law blocks unfair competition from big, out-of-state corporations.
