N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Congratulations to the Barnes County North Lego Robotics team on their state championship. The team known as the Bison Bots competed in the First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament held February 7 at the University of North Dakota.

Coach/Advisor Annette Beattie said the team is comprised of Madison Riedman, Olivia Fehr, Jordyn Everson, Victoria Haugen, and Peter Bryn. She said the students designed, built, and programmed a robot using EV3 programming.

In addition to their work with the robot, they also researched and created an innovative game that makes learning fun and that was the theme of this year’s FLL project.  Beattie said together they learned critical thinking, team building and presentation skills in a real-life situation.

After presenting their project, answering questions about how they built and programmed their robot, and demonstrating core team values, the team went on to compete with their robot.

Their hard work paid off as the Bison Bots were named the Grand Champions on February 7.  The team will be representing North Dakota at Nationals this May at Legoland in California.
