N.D. (AP) – The nonprofit Farm Rescue is accepting applications from farmers who need help with spring planting.

The Jamestown based group assists family farmers in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa and eastern Montana.

Farm Rescue delivers equipment and volunteers to farmers who are injured or ill to plant and harvest their crop instead of handing out money. The group also assists farmers who have been victims of natural disasters.

Volunteers help farmers plant and harvest up to 1,000 acres of crop free of charge. The nonprofit offered a helping hand to its first farmer in 2006 and since has helped hundreds of farm families. The organization says priority will be given to applications received by March 31.
