ND. (NewsDakota.com)  Another busy weekend for Cardinals sports fans, both girls and boys basketball teams were in action and so were the wrestlers.  Here are the results:

CARRINGTON GRAPPLERS REGION 2 DUAL CHAMPS

The Cardinals wrestling team dominated the tourney in Larimore on Saturday winning all three duals by a combined 165 points.  In the first dual, the Cards beat May-Port CG 69-6.  In the semifinal round Carrington won 60-16 over Hillsboro/CV.  In the championship, Carrington beat Pembina County North 67-11.  Carrington and Pembina County North both qualify for the State Wrestling tourney at the Fargodome starting February 19th-21st. Next up for Carrington will be the Region 2 individual tourney at Grafton on Saturday, February 14th.  AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com will have entire coverage for the Cardinals starting at 10am.

GIRLS HOOPS:  No. 3 Lakota/Edmore 52  No. 6 Carrington 47

Despite a 20-point comeback attempt in the fourth quarter by the Lady Cardinals, the Lady Raiders would hold on for their 17th victory of the year.  Carrington had only one player in double figures, Freshman Haley Hewitt scored 11 points off the bench.  Senior Brooke Rosenau added nine.  The Raiders defense held Sophomore phenom Maara Nelson to just two points the entire game, she’s been averaging almost 15 points per game so far this year.  Senior Center standout Fallyn Freije of LE poured in 19 points and had five blocked shots.  Carrington drops to 16-2, LE is 17-2.  Next up for Carrington will be on Monday, February 9th at Maddock against Benson County for their last regular season game of the year.  Pregame will start about 7pm on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com.

BOYS HOOPS:  Carrington 59  New Rockford/Sheyenne 57

For the second night in a row, Senior captain Brady Bickett would get another buzzer beater to drop in, this time it would win the game.  The night before against Ellendale, Bickett would get a buzzer beater to send the game into overtime.  Carrington was led by Sophomore Bryce Edland with 21 points.  Followed by Brady Smith with 12 and Connor Wendel with 10.  The Rockets were led by Jack Schaefer and Seth Soderholm with 13 each.  Carrington is 11-4 overall, NRS drops to 4-12.  Next up for Carrington will be on Tuesday night at Oakes, pregame about 7pm on AM 1600 KDAK and 1220 KDDR and newsdakota.com.
