N.D. (NewsDakota.com) For the first time this season, the Valley City Hi-Liner boys basketball team won back-to-back games after defeating Fargo South on the road by a score of 74-58. The Girls would lose their their bout with the Bruins 66-50.
Boys: Valley City 74 Fargo South 58
The Hi-Liners got the ball rolling earlier with the perimeter play of Nate Rodriguez. The Hi-Liners point guard lit up the score board hitting five three pointers by the midway mark of the opening half. When the Bruins caught onto that game plan, Valley City simply sent the ball into the post where Jared Lentz looked right at home on the Bruins court. Lentz popped off for a game high 27 points under the basket.
Rodriguez would end the night with 22 points for Valley. Freshmen Hunter Burchill had his best night of the year knocking down nine in the win.
The win was a two point victory in the Eastern Dakota Conference standings, so the Hi-Liners advance to 4-10 in the conference while holding a 4-10 record overall.
Girls: Valley City 50 Fargo South 66
Back at the Hi-Liner Activity Center the Hi-Liner girls basketball tam was hosting Fargo South in their second meeting of the season.
While the Hi-Liners got a strong night from Rebekah Peterson who tallied a team high 20 points. The Bruins proved to have just enough to edge out Valley City once again.
Fargo South’s Emily Stroup led all players in the game with 22 points and 9 rebounds.
The Hi-Liners boys and girls are back on the court Thursday when they travel to Fargo Shanley for an Eastern Dakota Conference double header. You can hear both games on 1490 KOVC starting at 5:45pm with the girls game.
