N.D. (NewsDakota.com) There’s a bill in the legislature that would help school districts with declining enrollment. The current system is based on a per pupil formula.
Under the proposal, school districts that lose 10 students per year would be eligible for a reimbursement of $3,500 per lost student. The cost tagged with the bill is $ 8 million.
Valley City Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman says the $8 million dollar figure is interesting being it’s the same amount school districts use to receive from a Bank Tax.
School districts across the state shared a portion of the Bank Tax funding for several years until it was discontinued following the 2013 legislative session.
The Valley City School District’s student enrollment has declined over the last two school years.
Meanwhile another bill would increase the per pupil formula to $9,482 dollars per student in the next school year and be bumped up to $9,767 dollars in the following school year.
