ND  (NewsDakota.com)  A busy weekend for Cardinals sports teams over the weekend, as the Wrestlers traveled to Rugby and the basketball teams were in action on Friday and Saturday as well.  

GBB – No. 4 Carrington 60  Central Cass 43

In the first game of two varsity basketball games last Friday in Casselton, Senior Brooke Rosenau poured in 18 points and helped the Lady Cards pick up their tenth victory in a row this year and improved to 10-0 overall.  Maara Nelson and Bailey Retzlaff added 10 points each as well for Carrington.

BBB – No. 5 Central Cass 76  Carrington 54

The boys played the second game of the night, Central Cass had just a three point lead going into halftime, but the Squirrels scored 42 second half points compared to Carrington’s 23 and remain undefeated at 7-0.  Junior Connor Wendel led the way for Carrington with 19 points.  Four players were in double figures for the Squirrels, leading the way was Adam Breske with a game high 20.  

BBB – Carrington 65  Lakota/Edmore 41

The boys were back in action the following night (Saturday, Jan. 17) for a makeup game with the Raiders in Edmore.  Senior Captain Seth Abaurrea had 15 points for the Cards to help secure the victory over District 7 Lakota/Edmore.  Carrington used to be in District 7 up until this year, now they reside in District 5.  Brady Smith had 14 points and Shae Mehring added 13.  All of Mehring’s points came in the third quarter, he also had three 3-pointers.  Junior Brandt Ronningen led the way for the Raiders with 12 points.  Carrington improves to 7-3 overall, LE drops to 4-4 overall.   

2015 Rugby Panthers Booster Wrestling Tourney – Carrington 1st place – 263 points

The No. 1 Carrington grapplers have won three out of six tourneys so far this year.  If you don’t count the Bismarck Rotary (7th place) and the Fargo Rumble on the Red (10th place), they have won three out of four.  In the Carrington Tourney back in December, they finished runner up to Pembina County North.  Walker Carr, Billy Holtan, Bridger Anderson, Riley Lura and Bradee Schroeder all brought home individual championships at the Rugby Tournament.  Carrington had eight wrestlers go to the finals.  Here are the top five team scores:
1st  Carrington – 263
2nd  Pembina County North – 194
3rd  Napoelon – 182
4th  Turtle Mountain – 172.5
5th – Minot Bishop Ryan – 154.5

Next up for the Carrington girls varsity basketball team will be Tuesday night (Jan. 20) at home against Griggs County Central, pregame about 7pm and tip off about 7:30pm.

Next up for the Carrington boys varsity basketball team will be this Friday night in Leal against fellow District 5 team Barnes County North, pregame about 7pm and tip off about 7:30pm.
