CITY (NewsDakota.com) The 2015 Barnes County Boys Basketball Tournament concluded Saturday, and with a first time champion.

7th Place: Sargent Central 60 Barnes County North 38

 In the opening match up of the day’s final contests. Sargent Central cruised to victory with strong shooting. The Cadets were 45 percent from the field in the game. Leading the way for Sargent Central was Brook Bergh who tallied a game high 21 points. Drew Wittitch and Tyler Peterson each battled under the basket for 10 points.

Barnes County Norths’s Allen Contreras was outstanding from the free throw line hitting 7-of-9 free throws and leading the Bison with 23 points and 8 rebounds. 

5th Place: Milnor 75 Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 66

 In the consolation championship, Milnor took the early lead but watched it start to dissolve when Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page’s Hunter Huschka drove home five three-pointers in the opening half. Despite Their strong efforts the Spartans could not outlast the Bison as Milnor hoisted the fifth place trophy when the final buzzer sounded.   

Milnor’s Masen Olsen led all scorers in the game with 26 points. Qunincey Marlatt added 23 while Joshua Weber came off the bench for 10 in the victory.

Finley-Sharon/Hope-Pages Ethan Brown led the Spartans on the score sheet sheet with a dougle-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Huschka slowed up in the second half finishing the game with 17 points in the loss. 

3rd Place: Maple Valley 52 Griggs County Central 41

In the third place contest, the Raiders of Maple Valley led from the start and never relinquished the lead, despite the Cougars outscoring the Raiders 17-13 in the final eight minutes of regulation. Maple Valley’s free throw shooting proved to be the deciding factor, as the Raiders made 16 of 19 from the line for the game to GCC’s 9 of 15.

Dakota Steele lead the Raiders with 19 points, while the Cougars had 18 point from Jayden Glover. 

Championship: LaMoure-Litchville-Marion 52 Enderlin 47

In the championship match, the number one seed when the tournament started shot an even 50 percent from the floor to win the title.  Enderlin, which has now lost to the Loboes

twice in a week’s time only managed a 31.6 percent from the floor, despite cutting down a 12 point LLM lead down to as little as one possession in the second half.

The Loboes, who won the championship for the first time in the co-op’s history, had a double-double from Anthony Olson with a team high 19 points and 11 rebounds. Drew Thielges had 13 points, and Quinn Alo added another 10 for the champions, who have now won five in a row, after starting the season 0-4. Enderlin had 14 points from Graham Hurlburt, while Peter Lindgren added 12 in the Eagle loss.
