N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liner and Carrington Cardinals grapplers made their way to the states capitol this weekend for the Bismarck Rotary Invitational. Out of 27 teams the Cardinals finished in seventh place with 155.5 points. The Hi-Liners picked up a 22nd place finish with a team score of 43. Rapid City Central won the tourney over Aberdeen Central by just two points, 185.5 to 183.5. Bismarck High finished in third place with 170 points.
Valley City’s Highlight of the tournament came in the 220 pound weight class were Jordan Magnuson picked up the tournament championship when he pinned Nick Becker of Napoleon.
The Cards found great success at the 152 pound class where Junior Billy Holtan claimed the title. Holtan has been in wrestling for five years, he placed eighth at the Rumble on the Red in Fargo earlier this month and has placed at state two times. Walker Carr finished in second place at 145 pounds and at 182 pounds Riley Lura finished in third. Pics below are of Champion Billy Holtan (white and red).
