CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – What was just a routine traffic stop in Valley City turned up drugs and weapons Wednesday night at around 11:00 PM.

Sgt. Swenson with the Valley City Police Department noticed a vehicle with window tinting that appeared to be in violation of North Dakota law and vehicle modifications that were also in violation. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver identified himself as 28 year-old Andrew Leach of Watford City.

During contact, probable cause suggested that the vehicle contained contraband. During a search, officers found two firearms, quantities of marijuana, and multiple small packages of a white powder packaged for sale as well as numerous narcotics paraphernalia.

Leach was taken into custody for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was transported to the Barnes County Correctional Center for booking. It’s expected that there will be additional charges.
